How to use local meeting transcripts with Claude

To use local meeting transcripts with Claude, open Transcripted Settings, go to Agent, click Connect on the Claude Desktop row, then restart Claude. Claude can use Transcripted's read-only tools first, with local Markdown folders as a fallback.

Steps

  1. 1

    Open Agent settings

Open Transcripted, go to Settings, then choose Agent.

  2. 2

    Connect Claude Desktop

Click Connect on the Claude Desktop row, then restart Claude Desktop so it can see Transcripted's read-only tools.

  3. 3

    Ask a sourced question

Ask Claude to summarize your latest meeting and tell you which Transcripted source it used, including the filename or date.

  4. 4

    Use files as the fallback

If direct tools are not connected, give Claude the smallest useful set of saved Markdown files or folders instead.

  5. 5

    Keep the archive current

Add new meetings and dictations after they happen so Claude has fresh spoken context next time.

What Claude needs from meeting notes

Claude is more useful when the meeting context is concrete. Transcripted's connection gives Claude read-only tools for recent context, search, meetings, dictations, and recaps.

If those tools are not available, use the saved Markdown folders. Transcripted still creates a readable note, transcript, and structured frontmatter Claude can work from.

Good questions to ask Claude

Treat Claude like a reader of your meeting archive. Ask questions that map to the files, not magic questions that require context you never saved.

  • Use Transcripted to summarize my latest meeting. Tell me which source you used, including the filename/date, then list decisions and action items.
  • What did we decide about the launch plan in April?
  • List open follow-ups from customer calls last week.
  • Who raised concerns about onboarding?
  • Compare the pricing discussion across these three meetings.

How to avoid over-sharing

Local files make it easier to choose the scope. You can share one note, one folder, or a filtered set of meetings instead of handing over an entire cloud account.

That is useful when the archive includes hiring, customer, legal, or strategy conversations.

Common questions

Can Claude read Transcripted files?

Yes. Claude Desktop can use Transcripted's read-only tools after you connect it in Transcripted Settings. You can also give Claude access to local Markdown files or paste the relevant content.

Should I give Claude every meeting transcript?

Start with the smallest useful set of files. Add more context only when the question needs it.

What is better for Claude, summaries or transcripts?

Use both when you can. Summaries are fast to scan, but transcripts preserve the detail Claude needs for deeper questions.

Give Claude meeting context you own.

Start with local files, then choose exactly what Claude can read.
